Hi,

this is exactly what i'm after too, if somebody could make this happen it'd be awesome. isn't there a way of just getting the existing sticky note app that ships with win 7 to sync with evernote?

It'd make my life so much simpler!

That would be nice ... maybe you should make a Windows 7 Desktop Gadget that is a sticky note that works with the Evernote API ;)

I wish Evernote would include the option to do what the Sticky Notes feature in Win 7 does - be right there in front of the screen, as obtrusive as I want it to be. Currently i am having to use the Notes in Outlook and then "Add to Evernote" if i need to persist it.

Actually, Evernote has several ways you can export data. Directly in Evernote on the desktop, you can export your data as an Evernote export file (which is actually an XML format as far as I know) or as HTML, which you could view in any browser. I'm actually going to be writing an article next week on HowtoGeek.com about how you can export your Evernote notes into OneNote; all the options are workarounds of sorts, but they do work.

Another option would be to "print" your notes as PDF; you can print a whole notebook at once, so this is a fairly efficient way to get your notes out. Finally, Evernote has an open API, so other note-taking programs could make a way to import your Evernote notes, or you could even write your own export program if you're a programmer. ;) You are right that it becomes impractical to preserve tags and stuff, but you should be able to technically create a program that would do all of this with the API.

Finally, Evernote is free for the basic plan, and if you decide you don't want to keep using it you could still access your old notes for free, even if you created them with the pro subscription. So it's actually much less lock-in (in my opinion) than many other similar programs.

Do you have another note taking program you prefer? As I mentioned, I'm a fan of several different note-taking programs, and I'd always like to hear of exciting and innovative new options :)

When Evernote’s CEO repeatedly says that Evernote becomes more valuable to users the longer they use it, what he meant was, since there is no useful way to export data from evernote to, say, onenote, you get more locked-in to evernote the more you use it! lol (It becomes impractical to export notes one by one preserving tags, date created, other metadata etc.).

Basically, there is no turning back from Evernote.
