Microsoft Office 2010 is coming to a computer near you later this year, and today you can make sure that you’re computer will be running on day one at a great price. College students can purchase and download Office 2010 for only $59.95 today from the Microsoft Store website. And, thanks to the recently announced Office Technology Guarantee, you can then get a free copy of an ebullient edition of Office 2010 when it is released from http://www.office.com/techg.
How do you get it?
So here’s the steps. First, go to http://theultimatesteal.com/ Edit: Now, go to the Microsoft Store Student Page, and click on the Buy Now button.
Enter your college email address, and click Submit.
Please note that you must be enrolled in a valid US educational institution for at least 0.5 course credits currently to purchase with this discount.
Once you’ve entered the info, you will see this message. Check your college email, and if you’re eligible you’ll receive an email with a link to purchase Office with the Ultimate Steal discount.
Click the link in the email, and now you can add Office 2007 Ultimate to your cart.
Complete the purchase as normal, and when it is finished you will see this page with the download link. Your product key for Office 2007 will appear directly above this download button, and you will receive it in an email as well.
Once your download is completed, you can install and activate Office 2007 as normal. Please note that you must install and activate Office 2007 before September 20, 2010 to get the free Office 2010 upgrade.
Claiming your Office 2010
The download page recommends that you can claim a free copy of Office 2010 if you purchased Office 2007 after March 5th, and says to go to www.office.com/techg for more info. Currently the site only tells you about the program, and that you’ll need your proof of purchase, product key and ID to claim your upgrade. More info will be added when Office 2010 is released, and you can sign up for an email reminder to make sure you know when it’s out and ready to download!
Your free Office 2010 upgrade will be available as a download, or you can order a disk for an additional cost. And according to the FAQ page, your free upgrade will be for Office 2010 Professional, as the product editions have been streamlined in the 2010 release.
One interesting thing is that Microsoft has announced a Professional Academic edition of Office 2010 with a list price of $99. It includes the same programs as Office Professional 2010, so there could be a chance the free Office 2010 download will be the Academic version, but either which way, the Ultimate Steal price is $30 cheaper than Office Professional Academic 2010’s list price so it’s still a great bargain. It’s unclear if the Ultimate Steal promotion will be continued after Office 2010’s release, but if you take advantage of the Ultimate Steal offer today you’ll be sure to get it for $59.95.

Any deals out there for middle/high school students who don’t have a college I.D.?
Sorry, no, this Office deal is only for college students
. You can still get free developer software from Microsoft via http://www.dreamspark.com as a highschooler if you’re interested.
For deals on Microsoft Office 2010, one thing you could do is by Office 2007 Home and Student and then get Office 2010 via the tech guarantee program just the same. Amazon’s got it for about double the Ultimate Steal price (sorry!), but that’s still likely the cheapest you’ll see Office 2010 for a while. Or just wait … once it’s released it’ll be available via standard academic retailers such as JourneyEd, which typically means you can get Office Professional for under $100. Not as good, but still a help

great post as usual!
great post as usual!
Up to how many computers can I install this? Since I have a laptop and a desktop, I need both for my computer.
Thanks!
According to the license agreement, you can install Office Professional (or Ultimate, as the student discount for Office 2007 gets) on up to 2 computers that you own and/or are the primary user. So, yes, you can install it on both your desktop and your laptop. I have a desktop and a netbook, and I have it installed on both … works great!
For standard home users, Office Home and Student works out even better … you can install it on up to 3 computers in the same household. Very nice for families!

I just ordered it and have it download, and installed to my computer. Do you know why the spelling & grammar (proofing) doesn’t not check for me? It said: “Cannnot find proofing tools for English (united states). If you have the proofing tools, try installing or re-installing them. ” Please email me to fix this.
Thanks!
Hmm … I’ve never seen that problem. Did you choose the English version? If so, try contacting the support at the Ultimate Steal site … http://bit.ly/anNZ1Z

Do you get the discs for Office 07?
Actually you get a download of the installer for Office 2007, which is the same thing contained in the disks.
Can this be burned to a disc for a back up?
Definitely. You can either burn them to a disk directly from Windows (select the files, right-click, select Send To, and then select your DVD drive), or you can use a 3rd party program that may be installed on your computer such as Nero or Roxio. Alternately, you can download the free ImgBurn program to burn them to a disk – http://www.imgburn.com/.
Hope this helps, and let me know if you need more info!

This is a good offer and I think that I saw something similar being broadcasted on the easy saver website. They have all sorts of information there about discounts and great deals. But this time I’m amazed that Microsoft offers such a nice discount on their newest product.
I am interested in purchasing Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010. However I have 2 laptops that I use, can I do an install on both?
Definitely! The Office license lets you install it on up to 2 computers you own yourself, and I have my 1 copy installed and activated on my desktop and netbook and it works great. If you’re not planning on the two computers being used by two different people most of the time, you should be fine.
Thank-you for the information! I do appreciate your quick reply.
